Personal hygiene: What to use?

What to use for personal hygiene? What should it be like? Let’s bring it back to basics

Basic personal hygiene

You don’t need much to stay clean and the more natural you live and eat the less you need for keeping yourself clean.

The most important cleaning detergent is water itself. Hot water opens the pores of our skin, cold water closes them.

I use a microfiber cloth to wash my body, wring it out and use it then for drying myself off. Saves having to carry a towel. And such a little microfiber cloth fits into any pot and can be boiled to kill all the germs.

Water is a good start …

Besides water, you can use water with baking soda. If you only have very little water because you are hiking or are in an area with very little water: Take a container, put water in it and dissolve some baking soda. Wet your microfiber cloth and dripping wet clean your whole body starting with the cleanest parts, finishing with the dirtiest ones. After cleaning your body rinse and wring out the cloth, rinse it and dry yourself off with it. The baking soda remains on the skin which has the same effect like deodorant so it is in your favor.

… add some baking soda or rye flour

To wash your hair you can also use baking soda dissolved in water and rinse it with apple vinegar. Instead, you can use rye-flour-slime made of water and rye flour. Take a couple of spoons of rye flour and add just enough hand warm water stirring it in to get the same consistency like ordinary shampoo. Apply it to the dry hair, make sure it gets on all the hair and your scalp and then thoroughly rinse it out.

To brush your teeth put a dash of baking soda on your tooth brush. Rinse with water once you are done brushing.

Traveling with hand luggage a glass nail file comes handy or if security is not too harsh you can carry a nail-clipper with a metal file attached.

This is all you need

It’s not a burden to nature and affordable. No animals suffered through hell as guinea pigs to test your detergents. You only put on your skin what you could safely put into your mouth and swallow. And as the skin absorbs anything you put on it, you should only put on it, what you would eat as well.
